70s Style...Wedding

These are a few photos from my parent's wedding day. My Great Aunt made Mum's gorgeous dress and cape, and Mum made the headpiece as well as my Nan's blue dress. Dad's suit is pretty wicked too, although as the story goes his shoes were too small and he took them off pretty much straight after the ceremony.

I love the picture of my Pop Frank helping Mum with her dress. For me these pictures and the stories behind the clothes make me realise how unnecessarily extravagant modern weddings are. What means the most to me about this day is not how extravagant the centre pieces were or how expensive the dress, or any of those things my generation seem to worry about.

I cherish knowing that it was a day filled with love, which is evident in every stitch of the handmade dresses, and in the image of a father helping his daughter with her dress. If I ever become a bridezilla, I hope somebody shows me these photos and reminds me what is really important.

  1. So cute! I think all generations of girls have worried about how they look for their weddings, especially since the camera was invented! But I agree that it should be about more than just the dress, it's such an important day!
